Ezekiel Commits to SAU

Eastern women's basketball sophomore guard Kenzie Ezekiel committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Southern Arkansas University on Tuesday.

"I'm thankful for the great year I had with my teammates and coaches at Eastern," Ezekiel said. "I'm excited to see what the next chapter holds for me at SAU."

Ezekiel played only one season at Eastern, but contributed in large part to the team's success. She was named to the NJCAA All-Region II Second Team and was also the Region II Player of the Week for Feb. 10-16, 2020.

"I am very proud of Kenzie," said Eastern head coach Al Davis. "She is originally from Wilburton, but attended Randall University after graduating from Wilburton High School. Once I got the job here at Eastern, she contacted me and told me she wanted to transfer and get closer to home to help out her grandmother. I told Kenzie if she comes here and works hard I will put her in the best situation to be successful."

Ezekiel appeared in every game during the 2019-2020 season and averaged 15.1 points, 1.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game during the regular season. Ezekiel also shot 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 79.3 percent from the free-throw line.

"Kenzie is one of the hardest working players I have ever coached," Davis said. "With her hard work, she was voted Player of the Week once this season and was voted to the NJCAA Region II All-Region Team."

Ezekiel's contributions helped lead Eastern to a 19-12 regular season record and a 2nd place finish in the conference, more than doubling the team's win total from the season before.

"I will miss Kenzie next season," Davis said. "She brought toughness to our program and helped get Eastern back to becoming a winning program. Southern Arkansas is getting a good one."
